These are terms used frequently in the day-to-day business here on campus that may be confusing to new students. Consider this your key to understanding the Clinton language!
Add/Drop
First week of classes. Courses can be added or dropped without instructor's permission.
Adjunct Faculty
Part-time instructors.
Advisor
Assists in planning your program of study.
Bursar
Office responsible for billing and collecting tuition payments.
Calculator Loan Program
Scientific calculators may be borrowed for semester-long math courses (from the library).
CCPT Clinton County Public Transportation
Public transportation offered by the Clinton County Public Transit Services.
Cougar's Den
Student lounge next to the Cafeteria (Twisted Pita Cafe) in the Moore Building.
Credit Hours
Number of hours a course meets each week.
Curriculum
Your program of study (also referred to as "major").
DL
A course offered online (distance learning).
Full Time
12-18 credit hours per semester.
Gen Eds
Courses that provide a broadly based education and transfer within SUNY.
Graduation Application
A list of courses required to graduate.
HPE
Health/Physical Education.
Hybrid (HL)
Courses that meet both online and on campus.
Impound
A hold on students' records due to outstanding debt (books, money, health records, etc.).
Transcript
A list of one's courses and grades
Prereq
Short for pre-requisite, a course that is required in order to take a higher-level course.
PTK
Short for Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for students with a 3.5 GPA after completing 12 credits.
Registrar
Office where students' official records are kept such as transcript.
Section
Identifies class hours and days.
Student Portal
Students' electronic link to their schedules, grades, advisors' names and office hours.
Student Senate
Student government, responsible for disbursing student activity funds. Oversees clubs.
Syllabus
Description of course content, distributed by instructors to students.
