Distinguished Alumna
Sylvia Manor ’78 received the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award.
Upon graduating from Beekmantown Central High School, Sylvia enrolled at Clinton Community College, receiving her A.S. in Business Administration in 1978. In 1980 Sylvia completed her B.S. in Accounting at Plattsburgh State University and she and her husband, Wayne Manor, also a proud CCC alum, relocated to Dallas, Texas. Sylvia began her career as a revenue accountant for a regional oil production company. In 1984 she earned her Certified Public Accounting designation and swiftly advanced her career, working for several regional oil companies in the Dallas area.
Over a decade ago Sylvia embraced a high-risk opportunity and teamed up with a group of talented professionals who struck oil in Ghana, Africa and created Kosmos Energy, LCC. On July 6, 2015 Sylvia retired as Vice President and Controller of the company that now employs several hundred people in eight countries. Sylvia played an important role taking the company public on the New York Stock Exchange and enjoyed a successful career.
Sylvia could not have known “where the often snow covered road, up the hill to Clinton Community College would lead!” But, throughout her many successful ventures and adventures, Sylvia has never forgotten that Clinton Community College is where she got her start. She and Wayne have made a significant contribution to the promotion of the college, the alumni association, and the Clearly Clinton Campaign through their passion for and dedication to education.
